Turkish club Trabzonspor announced on Tuesday that their player had received an invitation to represent Egypt's squad in the men's football tournament in Paris 2024.

Despite Trezeguet's approval, the club declined the offer due to their participation in the UEFA Europa League qualifications.

"Good luck to the Egyptian Olympic team in the 2024 Paris Olympics. I am grateful for the trust shown in me by the team's technical staff," Trezeguet said on his official Instagram account.

"I was very much looking forward to participating in this prestigious event and representing my country, Egypt," added the Trabzonspor forward.

The Olympics are scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August, with the men's football tournament kicking off earlier on 24 July.

This marks the second Olympic disappointment for Trezeguet, as he was included in Egypt's provisional list for the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but could not participate due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The 29-year-old forward showcased stellar form for Trabzonspor last season, scoring 11 goals in 28 games across all competitions and helping his team secure third place in Turkey's Super Lig.

Egypt will be making their 12th appearance in the Olympics' men's football tournament. Although they reached the semifinals twice in 1928 and 1964, they have never won an Olympic medal.

The young Pharaohs, who secured their place in Paris 2024 by finishing as runners-up at the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, have been placed in Group C.

They are set to face the Dominican Republic on 24 July, followed by matches against Uzbekistan and Spain on 27 July and 30 July, respectively.
