Egyptian swimming star Farida Osman's Olympic dream has been dashed due to a heartbreaking 0.02-second miss and a twist in qualification rules.
Osman, who had previously been confirmed for the Paris Games, expressed in a statement her deep disappointment at missing the opportunity.
She has dedicated her entire season to peak for the Olympics, achieving impressive results in various competitions. However, during the final stages of preparation, confusion arose regarding the qualification process.
Despite narrowly missing a cut time of 24.70 seconds in the 50-metre freestyle by a mere two-hundredths of a second and boasting a strong world ranking, Osman learned she would not compete due to limited quota restrictions for Paris.
"After months of relentless training, I am devastated to learn that I will not be representing Egypt at the Paris Olympics," Osman said in her statement.
Expressing her regret to the Egyptian sporting community, Osman nonetheless offered her unwavering support to the entire Egyptian delegation competing in Paris.
"I want to thank everyone for their unwavering support, and I wish all the best to my fellow Egyptian athletes at the Games," she concluded.
