Former Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny and Zamalek winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed have joined the Egypt U-23 team camp which is preparing for this summer's Olympic Games in Paris 2024 on Sunday, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced
Coach, Rogerio Micale, has called up Elneny and Zamalek winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed as senior players to join the young Pharaohs squad for the tournament scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.
The men's football tournament will start on July 24.
"Elneny and Zizo received a warm welcome from the U-23 team technical staff, led by Micale, along with football fans who gathered at the hotel to show their support for the players," stated the EFA.
Although participating teams are allowed to include three senior players in their squad, Micale had to settle for just two players due to refusals from the players' clubs.
The U-23 team began their preparation camp on Friday, which will run until Wednesday, before heading to France, where they will play two friendly matches against Ukraine and Iraq on 14 and 17 July respectively.
Egypt have been drawn into Group C, alongside Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Uzbekistan.
