Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) President Yasser Idris has expressed optimism about Egypt's performance in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games, predicting a potential total of seven to 11 medals for the country.
Idris announced that the EOC selected former Olympic medalists Sara Samir and Ahmed Elgendy as the Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony's flagbearers.
"Lifting the Egyptian flag in the Olympic Games is not limited to football players alone, as Mohamed Salah won't be participating," he said.
"Therefore, Samir and Elgendy, who have both previously won Olympic medals, will be the flagbearers for the opening ceremony," Idris added during a television programme.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to be from 26 July to 11 August.
"We have high expectations of achieving medal success in weightlifting, shooting, modern pentathlon, wrestling, and taekwondo," the EOC stated.
Both the Egypt U-23 football team and handball team have secured their places in this prestigious tournament, hoping to achieve high rankings.
"We hope the football and handball teams can reach the semifinals and secure a medal. However, the volleyball team faces a challenging task due to their long absence from the Olympic Games," Idris explained.
He further revealed that the Egyptian delegation for the Paris 2024 Olympics will consist of 149 athletes, making it the largest team in Egypt's history.
