Egyptian fencer Ziad Elsissy was eliminated from the third-place decider of the Men's Sabre Individual event after losing 15-12 to Luigi Samele of Italy late on Saturday.
Elsissy, ranked as the world number one, started the day in high as he triumphed over Matyas Szabo of Germany, the world number 17, with a tight score of 15-14 in the quarterfinal match.
He lost 15-11 to world number 13, Fares Ferjani of Tunisia in the semi-finals.
In contrast, Amer, who had previously defeated world number 2 Sandro Bazadze, was unable to progress further in the tournament following his quarterfinal loss.
Amer, ranked as the world number 18, faced a tough challenge against the seventh-ranked fencer in the world during his quarterfinal match.
Early on Saturday, Amer encountered a formidable challenge in Bazadze, a two-time European champion and silver medalist at the world championship.
Despite Bazadze's impressive track record, which includes recent gold medals at the 2022 and 2023 European Fencing Championships and a silver at the 2023 World Championships, Olympic success has eluded him thus far.
Having participated in two prior Olympic Games without clinching a medal, Bazadze finished 13th at Rio 2016 and narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish at Tokyo 2020.
Amer, the world number 18, is set to compete in the quarterfinal match later on Saturday, continuing his quest for Olympic glory.
The 26-year-old, Amer won the Senior Men’s Sabre 2015 African Championship which was held in Egypt, in addition to, U20 Men’s Sabre 2015/2016 African Championship which was held in Mali.
