Preview: Mayar Sherif, Assar kick off Egypt's busy day at Paris 2024 Olympics

The Egyptian contingent is set for a packed schedule on Sunday, as athletes in table tennis, shooting, tennis, and swimming gear up for their first appearances at Paris 2024 Olympics.

Table tennis veteran Omar Mohamed Assar will launch his campaign against Madagascar's Fabio Rakotoarimanana in the Men's Singles round of 64.

This marks Assar's third Olympic participation, having previously appeared in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 when achieved a fifth-place ranking after reaching the quarterfinals.

Mohamed El-Beiali will take on Milosz Redzimski of Poland in the Men's Singles round of 64.

Tennis table standout Dina Meshref is set to compete against Spain's Maria Xiao in the Women's Singles round of 64.

Meanwhile, tennis star Mayar Sherif, making her second Olympic appearance after her Tokyo 2020 participation, will face Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki, the world number 91, in the Women's Singles round of 64.

The shooting events will feature Remas Khalil, Mai Magdy, Ibrahim Korayiem, and Mohamed Hamdy Abdel-Kader as they embark on their quests in the prestigious tournament.

In fencing, Mohamed El Sayed will take on Colombian fencer John Rodriguez in the Men's Epee Individual round of 32.

Malak Hamza Dessouky will face Germany's Anne Sauer in the Women's Foil Individual round of 32.

Sara Amr Hossny will compete against Martina Favaretto of Italy, while Yara El Sharkawy will face China's Qianqian Huang in the Women's Foil Individual event.

Swimmer Lojine Abdallah will participate in the Women's 200m freestyle heats.

Back after missing the showdown in Tokyo, the beach volleyball team is scheduled to challenge Brazil in the first round of Pool A in the Preliminary round early in the day.
