Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif suffered a 2-1 defeat against Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark in the Women's Singles Round of 64 at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Sunday.
Sherif started strong by clinching the first set 6-2 but couldn't maintain her lead, eventually losing the following sets 7-5 and 6-1, resulting in her elimination from the event.
This marks the second Olympic appearance for the 28-year-old Sherif, who also competed in Tokyo 2020 but was eliminated in the first round.
Despite this loss, Sherif has showcased excellent form this year, reaching the second round of the French Open and securing victory at the Makarska Open in Croatia last week.
Ranked 87th in the world, Sherif was the top seed in the Valencia Open tournament last year, where she displayed dominance by not dropping a single set on her path to the final.
