Hamza adventure in Paris ends after losing to Macchi in foil quarterfinals

Egyptian fencer Mohamed Hamza Dessouky was eliminated from the quarter-finals of the Men's Foil Individual event after losing 15-9 to Fillipo Macchi of Italy on Monday

Hamza initially reached the round of 16 by edging past Jan Jurkiewicz of Poland 15-14 in a tightly contested match during the Round of 32.

He defeated Carlos Llavador of Spain 15-12 in the round of 16 on Monday to book a place in the quarterfinals. 

Earlier in the day, Abdel-Rahman Tolba was eliminated from the Men's Foil Individual competition. In a tough round of 16 match against USA's Nick Atkin, Tolba fought valiantly but ultimately fell short with a score of 8-15.

Alaa Abouelkassem, a silver medalist at London 2012 and a four-time Olympian, suffered a defeat in the Men's Foil Individual event Round of 32, losing 15-8 to Kazuki Iimura and exiting the competition.
