Egypt’s handball team faces a stern test on Wednesday when they take on defending champions France in a crucial Group B match at the Paris Olympics.
The Egyptians are coming off a narrow 30-27 defeat to Denmark in their second group game, while France have lost their opening two matches against Denmark and Norway. A victory for Egypt is vital to keep their hopes of progressing to the next round alive.
Egypt are competing in a tough group alongside Argentina, Denmark, France, and Norway.
Meanwhile, Egypt's table tennis star Omar Assar will continue his Olympic journey as he faces Kazakhstan’s Kirill Gerassimenko in the men's singles round of 16. Assar, ranked 16th in the world, progressed to this stage after defeating Ecuador's Alberto Mino.
Assar is aiming to improve on his fifth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics and will be looking to reach the quarterfinals once again.
His compatriot Dina Meshref will also be in action in the women's singles, facing a tough challenge against world number three Hina Hayata of Japan in the round of 32.
Egypt's fencing, boxing, archery, and shooting teams are also in action on Wednesday. The men’s sabre team will face France in the quarterfinals, while boxer Omar Elsayed Elawady will make his Olympic debut against Uzbekistan's Asadkhuja Muydinkjujaev in the men's 71kg round of 16.
Archer Jana Ali will compete in the women's individual round of 32, facing South Korea's Suhyeon Nam, while shooters Ibrahim Korayiem and Maggy Ashmawy will continue their campaigns in the men's 50m rifle 3 positions and women's trap events, respectively.
