Egypt's table tennis star Omar Assar has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics on Wednesday at the expense of Kirill Gerassimenko of Kazakhstan.
Assar came from behind to defeat Kirill Gerassimenko of Kazakhstan in a hard-fought 4-2 victory.
The 33-year-old managed to overturn his 2-0 deficit to make it 4-2 in a 42 minutes game.
The Egyptian, ranked 22nd in the world, started his Paris campaign with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Madagascar's Fabio Rakotoarimanana, before outclassing Ecuador's Alberto Mino 4-0.
In the quarters Assar is set to face the winner of the game between Swedish player Truls Moregard and Kao Cheng-Jui of China who will face off later on Wednesday..
Assar's quarterfinal appearance equals his best-ever performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he finished fifth.
