Egypt’s national handball team secured a crucial 26-25 win over Norway on Thursday, guaranteeing their place in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics.
The victory propels the Pharaohs to third place in Group B with five points, following a resounding 35-23 win against Hungary in the first round, suffered a narrow 30-27 loss to Denmark, and drew 26-26 with France.
Egypt held a slender 14-13 lead at halftime before sealing the victory in a closely contested second half.
The win comes on the back of a 28-23 triumph against Norway in the Golden League in January.
While Egypt has a positive recent record against Norway, the Scandinavian side had won all previous official World Cup encounters between the two nations.
The Pharaohs will next face Argentina on Sunday as they continue their quest for Olympic glory.
