Egypt team doctor Tarek Soliman has confirmed that they will have to wait until Monday to decide whether Ahmed 'Zizo' El Sayed will be fit to play against France in the Olympic Games semi-final.
Zizo, one of the senior players in Egypt's U23 squad, was stretchered off against Paraguay after sustaining a groin injury.
"Zizo has been undergoing intense treatment and physiotherapy since the Paraguay game. We have a training session today, but we will wait until tomorrow just before the game to make a final decision," Soliman told On Sport radio on Sunday.
Zizo played a crucial part in the victory against Paraguay, providing the assist for Ibrahim Adel to score a late equalizer, which allowed Egypt to win on penalties.
"He has a great will and determination to play in the semi-final, and he has made a lot of progress. There is a big chance he would be ready for tomorrow, but we won't risk him. This groin injury needs patience and care. The players have already played four games in less than 10 days and are under a lot of pressure," Soliman said.
The young Pharaohs have qualified for the Olympic semifinals for the first time since 1964 and are dreaming of a first-ever medal in soccer.
