Modern`Pentathlon: Egypt Elgendy finishes second in fencing ranking round at Paris Games

Egyptian athlete Ahmed Elgendy captured the spotlight on Thursday after finishing second of the fencing ranking round of the Modern Pentathlon improving on his previous record.

The 24-year-old Elgendy, a key figure in Egypt's quest for medals in Paris, finished second with 245 points just as the leader Oleksandr Tovskai, who has a better head-to-head record.

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he finished 13th in the men's fencing ranking round of the Modern Pentathlon with 208 points.

"It went well today, I want to focus on the rest of the semis to it will be easier than in Tokyo," he told the media after the competition. 

Elgendy is gearing up to exhibit his prowess in the semifinals of the Modern Pentathlon, where he will face challenges such as the Laser Run, his favorit sport, a 200m swimming race, show jumping, and a fencing bonus round on Friday.

In the same event, athlete Mohanad Shaban secured the 13th position with 225 points.
