Egypt U-23 football team suffered a crushing 6-0 defeat to Morocco on Thursday in the bronze medal match at Paris 2024.
Despite a strong performance against France in the semi-finals on Monday, the Egyptian team failed to replicate their form and delivered a lackluster performance against a deserving Moroccan side that claimed the bronze medal.
Coach Rogero Micale faced a significant setback early on when the team's classy winger, Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed, was forced to exit the pitch just ten minutes into the game due to a hamstring injury.
Morocco opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a superb curling shot from Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. Shortly after, Soufiane Rahimi doubled the lead with a well-placed header from a precise cross.
The Egyptian team struggled to respond to these goals and failed to pose a threat to the Moroccan goalkeeper.
Their only chance in the first half came in injury time when Mostafa Saad, who replaced Zizo, missed an opportunity to score into an open net from Mohamed Shehata's cross.
The second was worst for the Egyptian side, as Morocco swiftly extended their lead to 3-0 with a well-executed shot from Bilal El Khannous from outside the box.
Rahimi secured his brace and Morocco's fourth goal just four minutes after the hour mark.
Defender Akram Nakach made it 5-0 before PSG standout Ashraf Hakimi sealed the victory with a powerful strike from a set piece, completing the rout for Morocco.
