The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) has initiated an investigation and subsequent suspension of Olympic wrestler Mohamed 'Kesho' Ibrahim following allegations of sexual assault during his participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
EOC President Yasser Idris confirmed that Kesho will face scrutiny for purportedly engaging in irresponsible behavior following his competitions at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.
"Mohamed 'Kesho' Ibrahim will undergo investigation by the Committee of Bodies, Clubs, and Ethics regarding his actions post his involvement in the Paris Olympic Games," the EOC declared in a statement released on Friday.
"The EOC president has instructed the head of the Egyptian delegation to probe into the wrestler's absence," the statement further mentioned.
According to the EOC's statement, Kesho departed from the Egyptian camp with permission to attend a wrestling match in his weight category but failed to return and switched off his phone.
"If the allegations are substantiated, the wrestler will face permanent suspension and will be barred from participating in both domestic and international competitions," the EOC's statement concluded.
Earlier on Friday, the French authorities arrested the 26-year-old Egyptian wrestler for allegedly groping a woman in a bar, according to a statement from the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Kesho, who secured a bronze medal at Tokyo Games, was defeated by Azerbaijan's Hasrat Jafarov in the 67 kg Greco-Roman wrestling event on Wednesday.
