Egyptian weightlifter Karim Abu Kahla withdrew from the men's 89kg event at the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris after sustaining a right-shoulder injury during his second snatch attempt.
Abu Kahla, 27, had successfully lifted 165kg in his first attempt.
The Egyptian weightlifting team at the Olympics, which runs from 26 July to 11 August, includes five athletes: Neama Said (71kg), Sara Samir (81kg), Halima Abdel Azim (over 81kg), Karim Abu Kahla (89kg), and Abdel Rahman Mohamed (over 102kg).
Egypt is competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics with its largest-ever delegation, comprising 148 primary athletes and 16 reserves.
A total of 164 athletes will compete across 22 sports, making the pharaohs delegation the biggest in the Arab world and Africa.
So far, Egypt has secured one medal, with fencer Mohamed El-Sayed winning bronze.
