Egyptian athletes Ahmed Elgendy and Sara Samir are poised to chase Olympic podium finishes on Saturday at the Paris 2024 Games.
Elgendy will compete in the Modern Pentathlon final, while Samir is set to take on the women's 81kg weightlifting event.
The 24-year-old , who won a silver medal at Tokyo 2020, advanced to the final after topping his group and setting a new world record with 1,516 points.
He will face off against fellow Egyptian Mohanad Shaban, who qualified with a ninth-place finish and 1,497 points.
The Modern Pentathlon final will feature challenges including the Laser Run, a 200m swim, show jumping, and a fencing bonus round.
Weightlifter Sara Samir, the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist and 2022 world champion, is another strong contender for a medal in the women's 81kg weightlifting event.
In wrestling, Mostafa Aly Elsayed Elders will compete in the men’s 97kg freestyle round of 16, hoping to advance further in the tournament.
Abdelrahman Abdel-Aziz El-Sayed will aim to make his mark in Egyptian weightlifting history as he competes in the final of the men’s +102kg category.
Meanwhile, Modern Pentathlon athletes Malak Ismail and Salma Abdel-Maksoud will compete in the women’s event, despite modest results in the fencing round, where they placed 16th and 25th, respectively.
