The Whites' forward Moemen Zakaria scores the first hat-rick of the season as Zamalek smash Talae El-Geish in their Egyptian league opener

Zamalek ended their losing streak in style and launched their Egyptian Premier League campaign with a huge 6-1 win over Talae El-Geish on Sunday.

The victory is the first for coach Hossam Hassan in his new stint with the Cairo giants as they lost their last three matches – twice in the African Champions league and again in the Super Cup against rivals Ahly.

Khaled Kamar and Moemen Zakaria scored two early goals in the first half, giving Zamalek the upper hand as the team continued its prevalence with four more goals in the second half.

Sunday's win is a good consolation for Zamalek's angry fans and also their management, which signed more than a dozen players at the close of the season in hopes of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2004, after which Ahly has claimed eight consecutive titles.

Newly signed striker Khaled Kamar was lucky to open his score sheet with Zamalek after converting a penalty into a goal to give the Whites an early lead after only 10 minutes.

Zamalek players continued their dominance as they managed to reach El-Geish's goal in many chances amid fatal defensive errors from their opponents.

In the 20th minute, playmaker Ayman Hefni sent a marvelous through pass to forward Zakaria who managed to double the score for Zamalek.

Only three minutes after the break, Zakaria netted again with a perfect shot inside the area to keep Zamalek in the lead with a third goal.

Zamalek's attacks continued as striker Abdoulaye Cisse reached El-Geish's goal and hit the net – but the referee ruled the goal out after seeing his linesman's flag signal the Burkinabe player as offside.

On the 70th minute, full back Mohamed Abdel-Shafi added more woes for the military team after passing El-Geish defenders to score the fourth from a brilliant lob.

Two minutes later, Cisse had the chance to prove his worth with the fifth from a nice header.

Ivorian striker Oussou Konan scored the consolation goal for El-Geish from a header on minute 80, but it didn't hurt the Whites.

On the 86th minute, Zakaria continued his superb performance, scoring the sixth goal – the first player to score a hat-trick this season.

Zamalek's threat continued until the final minutes, but the referee's final whistle came to rescue El-Geish from more goals.
