The Ivorian striker will watch his side's Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday on the screen

Chelsea's Ivorian striker Didier Drogba has been dropped from the squad that travelled to Portugal ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Sporting Lisbon.

Drogba's absence is strange considering that he is fully fit for the game.

Chelsea's coach Jose Mourinho announced his 20-man squad for Sporting's clash that included Spanish striker Diego Costa who travelled to Portugal despite hamstring's problems.

Drogba was also benched during his sides 3-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

The veteran striker joined Chelsea the last summer after signing a one-year contract with the Blues.

Although he has made four appearances with Chelsea he has failed to find the net so far.
