The Iraqi government has launched several airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) bases in Amiriyah Fallujah, according to Sky News Arabia.

Meanwhile, IS is mobilising its forces to breaking through to Fallujah, Sky News reported.

Iraqi tribes have called on the government to support them with weapons to fight against IS.

Sky News added that the US-led coalition, in cooperation with the Iraqi air force, launched three airstrikes against IS to the west of Fallujah in Baiji and Al-Mausel city.

Alsumaria news website confirmed that the Iraqi army and tribes were battling against IS in Fallujah, and more than 30 IS militants were wounded and killed.

The source, who spoke anonymously, said the clashes, which started late Tuesday and continued into Wednesday, were launched by IS from three different areas, but Iraqi forces were able to defeat them.

Shaker Al-Issawy, head of Fallujah's local council, told Iraq's Shafaq news website that more than 400 IS militants gathered on Tuesday and began attacking Fallujah from the Zoba district side.

"The militants are one kilometre away from Fallujah," Issawy said.

He also added that there have been clashes in Fallujah for several months but the current ones are the most violent.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the US and its partners struck a large IS unit and three vehicles southeast of Fallujah.

US warplanes on Sunday struck near the Fallujah dam that IS had used to flood Shia neighborhoods in east Fallujah.
