Ahly coach praises the players' performance during the 1-0 win over Arab Contractors in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday
After beating Arab Contractors 1-0 in the 8th match-day of the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday, Ahly's Spanish coach, Juan Carlos Garrido says he is pleased to overcome lost opportunities and a numerical mismatch to chalk-up three points for the win.
The Cairo giants, who were forced to play with nine men, were about to pay for their wastefulness when Karim Bambo came off the bench with five minutes remaining to give his side a precious 1-0 win over 10-man Arab Contractors in the Egyptian Premier League on Wednesday.
"Ahly deserve to win the game as we lost more scoring opportunities from the beginning of the game," Garrido told the post-game press conference.
Arab Contractors had midfielder Karim Mostafa sent off while Ahly had left-back Sabri Rahil and central defender Mohamed Naguib dismissed early in the second half, all for second bookable offenses, but the title holders still prevailed despite their disadvantage.
"The referee took the right decision by sending off the three players but usually I refuse to comment on the referees' performance," he added.
Ahly are bidding to be first Egyptian team snatch the CAF Confederation Cup title when they face Ivory Coast's Sewe Sport in the final later this month.
"I hope to make use of the domestic league stopping by preparing well for the CAF Confederation Cup final," the Ahly tactician concluded.
