Art Alert: Assembled in Streams of Synonyms exhibition to open at Sharjah Art Gallery
Rana El-Nemr's solo exhibition, which probes an intangible quality of the urban, literary and personal spaces, opens on Sunday 30 November at the AUC's Sharjah Art Gallery
According to the notes about Rana El-Nemr's upcoming solo exhibition, Assembled in Streams of Synonyms, the artist focuses on her personal encounters with urban, architectural, literary, and imagined spaces. It is a quality that renders these spaces susceptible to transformation - functional, mis-planned or abandoned as they may be.
El-Nemr explores these fluid spaces through the different sensitivities to time and space expressed in the mediums of photography, video, 16mm film, sculpture, and text.
Assembled in Streams of Synonyms is curated by Maha Maamoun, and is a part of AUC_LAB, a new series of monographic exhibitions and projects by artists from the region.
Previous installments of AUC_LAB have featured Hassan Khan and Malak Helmy.
Rana El-Nemr is known for her many photography series yet the artists also explores material that touches on sound, film, text or 3D objects. El-Nemr has several awards to her name and she held several exhibitions in Egypt and internationally, including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Zentrum fuer Kunst und Medientechnologie, Karlsruhe (ZKM). She is a co-founder of the Contemporary Image Collective (CiC), a space for arts and culture founded in Cairo in 2004.
