Tahrir Square has been reopened for traffic early Monday morning after it was sealed off following a court verdict that saw former president Hosni Mubarak cleared of all charges.

Protests had erupted upon the verdict issued on Saturday and clashes with security around Tahrir left two killed and several injured.

Around 3,000 protesters gathered in Abdel-Monein Riad street that leads to Tahrir Square as army tanks and police armored vehicles blocked the way.

Saturday's verdict sparked anger when the judge dropped the murder and corruption charges against the 86-year-old former autocrat who was ousted during the 2011 January revolution.
