Ahly boss Juan Carlos Garrido puts his side's Confederation Cup triumph down to their belief in their title-winning chances

Ahly manager Juan Carlos Garrido is convinced that Sewe Sport could have killed off the game anytime hadn't the Reds believed in their winning chances during his side's 1-0 Confederation Cup final second-leg victory over the Ivorians.

Following a 2-1 away loss, Ahly managed to win their first-ever Confederation Cup title – thanks to a 96th- minute header from veteran striker Emad Meteb at Cairo Stadium which handed them the trophy on the away-goal rule.

"This is not the time to analyze our performance in the game, what's important now is the victory," Garrido told the post-match news conference.

"Generally, we were under immense pressure during the first half, but we managed to improve after the break.

"The match in fact was full of critical moments, and Sewe could have killed off the game anytime. But we still believed in our chances of winning the title and thus kept fighting for it.

"And as I earlier said, it's time to enjoy the victory, and from tomorrow we will begin preparing for the upcoming challenges.

"Ahly are a big club and our philosophy is to win more," the Spanish coach added.

Ahly, the first Egyptian side to claim the Confederation Cup, will face Champions League holders ES Setif of Algeria in the African Super Cup next year.
