Sewe Sport coach Rigo Gervais rued his team's missed chances during the Confederation Cup final, which cost them a memorable triumph in Cairo as Ahly clinched the title with a last-gasp 1-0 win.
"We wasted too many chances, not just here but also back home. We had the chance to score five or six goals in Abidjan and three here in Cairo but we didn't get any goals, so we got punished for that. When you waste a lot you end up conceding goals and losing," the 44-year old coach said during the post-match conference.
The Ivorians appeared to be very dangerous upfront against a very shaky Ahly's defence. They had a lot of close-range chances that would have killed off the game but they were largely profligate.
"We knew they would be pressing forward to get a goal and so we would find a lot of spaces at the back, we used them well but couldn't put the ball in the back of the net."
"Six minutes of additional time were too much. It was very sad to lose that way," he concluded.
Sewe Sport have been the dominant force in Ivorian soccer over the past few years. They managed to break the supremacy of ASEC and Africa Sport to win three consecutive league titles in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
They reached their first ever continental final but their dream of claiming the silverware has been put on hold.
