Several villages in the Nile Delta are without power after bombs brought down electricity pylons in Menoufiya
Three improvised bombs targeted electricity pylons and a railway track in Menoufiya on Sunday, the fourth anniversary of the January 25 uprising.
Two electricity pylons were hit, causing blackouts in a number of villages, Aswat Masriya reported.
A third bomb destroyed a small section of the Cairo-Alexandria railway.
Tanta Railway Authority head Mostafa Saad said the damage had been repaired and railway movement had resumed as normal.
Since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, a number of attacks have targeted electricity pylons and railway tracks.
Celebrations to mark the revolution’s anniversary, which is also Police Day, have been cancelled, as Egypt is in official mourning over death of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah.
Security has been tightened nationwide in preemptive measures against possible terrorist attacks.
The army has been stationed at Tahrir Square, the cradle of the uprising, blocking its entrances and exits.
