Egypt’s ministerial council postpones amending the laws that govern parliament elections in order to first tackle questions on the voting system itself
Egypt’s Council of Ministers has decided to postpone amending the laws that govern the elections and administration of the People’s Assembly (parliament), says Ahmed El Seman, the prime minister’s media spokesperson.
The parliament was dissolved after Egypt’s January 25 Revolution and a new parliament is anxiously awaited.
The amendments will be postponed until discussions resolve the question about which voting system to use. The debate is currently circulating on whether Egypt should go with a proportional representation, direct votes or a combination of both.
