The financial demands of Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon have meant that the anticipated transfer of forward Mahmoud 'Shikabla' Adbel-Razik to his boyhood club Zamalek next summer have been put on hold, Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour announced.

The 29-year-old attacker Shikabala held a meeting with Zamalek’s board members last April in the team's headquarter and reached a verbal agreement with them to rejoin the team next summer, but the club chairman Mansour revealed Monday that financial demands suspended the player's transfer.

Shikabala, who left Zamalek to join Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon for a season on loan early 2014, has been out of action since September, after a dispute with his club.

"Shikabala's return to the team's squad this summer is difficult as Sporting Lisbon asked for LE10 million to sell back the player," Zamalek chairman Mortada Mansour told the club's official website.

"He also owes to the team LE5.4 million," Mansour added.

The Aswan-born talent starred at Zamalek since 1996, catching the eyes of many with his skills and also inspiring the whites to win their last Egyptian League in 2004 and the Egypt Cup in 2008 and 2013.

He played for the Greek side PAOK between 2005 and 2007 and was loaned by Al-Wasl of UAE in the 2012-13 season.

He has played in the Egyptian National team since 2005, making a few appearances and was present when the Pharaohs won the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations.
