1-year sentence for Egyptian belly-dancer 'inciting debauchery' reduced to 6 months
The court also reduced the sentence of the videographer from one year to three months, but the one-year sentence of director, Wael Seddiki, remains the same
An appeals court reduced Sunday the one-year prison sentence against Reda El-Fouly, known publicly as Salma El-Fouly, to six months on charges of “inciting debauchery and immorality" after appearing in a revealing dress on YouTube.
The court also reduced the sentence of the videographer, Ramadan Rizk, from one year to three months.
The one-year sentence of the video's director, Wael Seddiki, who appeared in the clip singing and dancing with El-Fouly, remains the same as he is currently at large.
In May, El-Fouly appeared in a controversial belly-dancing video clip on YouTube, dancing in a revealing dress along with Seddiki, while lip-syncing to the song, which was recorded by another female artist.
The video has since garnered over two million views.
She was arrested shortly after, and sentenced to one year in prison in late June.
The appeals verdict can still be appealed in front of the Court of Cassation.
