Rachid Mohamed Rachid, former minister of industry, has been sentenced to ‎five years in jail after being convicted of embezzling public funds


Rashid Mohamed Rashid, former minister of industry, has been sentenced in absentia to ‎five years in jail Saturday after being convicted of embezzling public funds. ‎

He was also ordered to return the sum LE9.3 million he was found guilty of ‎accumulating during his tenure.‎

Rashid, who was openly praised by former US President George W. Bush as a model Egyptian reformer, was out of the country when former President Hosni Mubarak was deposed. He has been accused of using his government position to subsidise food export ‎industries in which he is a shareholder. ‎
