Aly Refaat wins the Nile Award for arts

The Higher Council of Culture announced the names of the state awards recipients yesterday


The Higher Council of Culture has announced the names of the state awards in the arts and literary fields. The highest honour is known as the Nile Award, followed in significance by the Appreciation and Encouragement awards. The receipients were announcedyesterday, 25 June.

The Nile Award (the highest state award) was given to the architect Aly Raafat. The total prize amounts to LE400,000 for the arts field. Raafat is one of the most famous Arab architects and has published many studies and books, most recently "Isis: An encyclopaedia of Arab architecture."Raafat has won many awards in Egypt and abroad.

The Appreciation Awards in the arts field went to Salwa El Gharib, general secretary of the Supreme Universities Council, and Hanaa Abdel Fattah, theatre director, actorand professor of theatrical arts.

The encouragement award went out to Director of Photography Saeed Shimi, architect Ahmed Hegab and Amal Nasr for her critical study in fine arts.
