Ahly will miss the services of their new signing Gabonese striker Malick Malick Evouna when they begin the new Egyptian Premier League season campaign, while defensive duo Ahmed Hegazy and Rami Rabia are in major doubt due to injuries.

The Egypt Super Cup holders Ahly will face Talae El-Geish in the first week of the Egyptian Premier League’s new season on Thursday.

"Evouna sustained an ankle injury during Monday's trainings and he left the session," Ahly's doctor Khaled Mahmoud told reporters after their morning training.

"He will rejoin Tuesday's session to be prepared for Sunday's league game against Ghazl El-Mahalla," Ahly’s doctor added.

Ahly signed Evouna in July from Morocco's Wydad Casablanca for a reported fee of $2.4m, one of Egypt's biggest transfers.

The highly rated striker was the Moroccan league's top-scorer with 16 goals last season. He made his international debut in 2012.

The Red Devils defensive duo Ahmed Hegazy and Rami Rabia are in major doubt for Thursday's game after suffering from muscle injuries during Monday's training.

"Hegazy and Rabia will undergo medical scans to determine their availability for the El-Geish game," the doctor added.

Moreover, Ahly's right-winger Bassem Ali will miss the Egyptian Premier League opener due to a muscle injury.

Ahly, holders of a record 36 Egyptian Premier League titles, failed to win a ninth successive title last season as arch-rivals Zamalek ended their 11-year drought.

Under the helm of newly named coach Jose Peseiro, Ahly are bidding to retain their fans' preferred title this season as they will kick off their campaign on Thursday.
