65 Free Egyptians Party candidates qualify for first stage runoffs in parliamentary elections
Five party members have already secured seats in the new parliament as part of the victorious 'For love of Egypt' electoral lists
The liberal Free Egyptians Party (FEP) announced on Tuesday that 65 of its candidates for independent seats in the first stage of the parliamentary elections have qualified for the runoffs in 51 constituencies.
Acting party chairman Essam Khalil said at a press conference on Tuesday that the party fielded 112 candidates in in 80 constituencies in 14 governorates which comprised the first stage of the parliamentary elections.
The runoffs will take place on 27 and 28 October.
The FEP will be battling for independent seats in Alexandria, New Valley, Beheira, Giza, Minya, Assiut, Sohag and Qena, according to party officials.
Candidates need to gain at least 50 percent of the votes available to them to win an individual seat.
Shehab Wagih, the party's official spokesperson, announced that five FEP members won seats as part of the victorious "For love of Egypt" electoral lists.
