Former Egypt and Tottenham striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has announced his resignation from Ismaily’s coaching post after a dispute with the Dervishes captain Hosni Abd Rabou ahead of the 1-0 loss to Petrojet in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Mido took lead of the Dervishes at the start of the ongoing season, hoping to draw a new history with the team, but a dispute with Abd Rabou, who asked management to suspend the player or else he would resign from his post, led to Mido’s resignation.

"It's impossible to continue working in this atmosphere," Mido told a television programme late on Sunday.

"With respect to captain Abd Rabou and the management, I can't wait for the decision after the board meeting,"

"I won't continue working with a team after being subjected to a conspiracy,"

"When I asked the management to choose between me or Abd Rabou staying with the team, I knew I had to resign from my post," Mido added.

Ismaily gained 13 points after seven games in the Egyptian Premier League, losing two games to Dakhlya and Petrojet, a draw in another with Arab Contractors and victories in four games.

Despite a good start to the Egyptian Premier League season, the coastal side lost 1-0 to Petrojet on Sunday.

The three-time Egyptian Premier League champions Ismaily failed to finish in the top three of the last season in order to be eligible for an African competition.

Mido, the former Egyptian and Zamalek striker, became an iconic figure in Egyptian football after playing for a host of European clubs including Tottenham, Marseille, AS Roma, and Ajax.

His career was brought to an end at the age of 30 after a long struggle with injuries and fitness in June 2013.

He became the youngest coach ever in the Egyptian Premier League, taking charge of Zamalek in January 2014 and managing to win the 2014 Egypt Cup title.

It is the second time for Mido to resign from Ismaily coaching post as he early last month also announced his resignation but the Dervishes management refused to accept it.
