The ministry of interior announces the arrest of Ibrahim Farag and his three sons, accused of killing protesters in Suez

The fugative businessman Ibrahim Farag and his son, accused of killing protesters in Suez, have been arrested, the ministry of interior has announced. The ministry will hold a press conference later today to address his arrest.

Ibrahim Farag and his three sons were accused of killing 18 protesters and injuring no less than 120 protesters during the 25 January revolution. Despite the general prosecutor referring Farag and his sons to the criminal court they were not arrested since March. The Farags had been on the run ever since.

The arrest of Ibrahim Farag and his sons was among the primary demands of the martyrs’ families during the sit in at Suez's El-Arbaeen square, which lasted for weeks. A group of Suez activists have also already accused Farag of hiring thugs earlier this month to disperse the sit in violently.

The new head of the Suez security directorate, Police Major General Adel Rafaat, had promised the martyrs’ families a couple of weeks ago that he would arrest Farag and his sons.
