London riots cancel Ghana-Nigeria friendly in Watford

Amid security concerns due to the ongoing civil unrest in London, Hertfordshire police cancel the Ghana and Nigeria friendly in Watford


The riots dominating London have forced the local police tocancel aNigeria and Ghana friendly game that was set to be held Wednesday at Watford’s Vicarage Road Stadium.

“The planned friendly between Nigeria and Ghana at Watford FC tonight (August 9) has been cancelled as a precaution due to potential demands on Hertfordshire Constabulary as a result of what is happening in London,” reads a Hertfordshire police statement.

“The decision was not taken lightly and was done in full consultation with the club. We hope those fans who had been due to attend the game will understand the reasons why.Any fans who had been planning to travel are being asked not to come to Watford.

“In relation to tickets, please visit the Watford FC website where details will be announced in due course.”

The African friendly is one of many matches cancelled because of the current events in London, including the Englandand the Netherlands international friendly and four Carling Cup matches.
