Protests will cause societal division and more damage and destruction according to the Nour party
The ultra-conservative Nour Party urged Egyptians on Sunday not to heed the calls of protests on Monday, which marks the fifth anniversary of the 25 January uprising that toppled long-time autocrat president Hosni Mubarak.
No established political groups or movements have endorsed calls for protests on 25 January.
However, police, aided by army personnel, have upped security in Cairo and nationwide in anticipation of possible protests.
"Protests, at a time like this, will be used to cause havoc in the country, and will cause clashes leading to bloodshed, deaths and injuries," the party's statement read.
Such protests, according to Nour Party, will cause societal division and more damage and destruction.
Nour is the only Islamist party that supported the 30 June 2013 protests and the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood president Mohamed Morsi.
Also on Sunday, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi delivered a speech commemorating the anniversary of 25 January 2011.
“We celebrate today the anniversary of the Egyptian people’s revolution where the country’s best youth paid with their lives to push for new blood in Egypt,” El-Sisi said.
