Nigeria defender Leon Balogun believes his side are capable of winning both the home and away ties against seven-time African champions Egypt in the Nations Cup qualifiers later this month.
The Super Eagles will host the Pharaohs on 25 March in Kaduna before playing them again four days later at Borg El-Arab stadium in Alexandria.
“We would be targeting to win both matches,” Balogun told the Nigerian Football Association official website on Wednesday.
“Egypt is a big football –playing nation, but Nigeria is also very, very big. There is no complex going into both matches and we have the men to give us victory in Kaduna and away in Egypt.”
The Mainz defender believes that winning the two clashes would help Nigeria to secure a place in next year's Nations Cup.
With only the group winners guaranteed automatic qualification for the Gabon finals, second-placed Nigeria have no choice but to beat current group leaders Egypt to improve their position in the group.
Egypt are leading group G with six points, two ahead of Nigeria.
“If we get the six points that would ease our path to the Africa Cup finals. Winning will be the principle driving us in both matches," Balogun added.
The 27-year-old, who earned his first cap with Nigeria in March 2014, is a key player in the defence of Bundesliga side Mainz and Nigeria and is likely to lead the team's backline against Egypt.
