The disqualification followed violence that erupted at the end of Setif's 2-0 home defeat by Sundowns of South Africa

Algerian side Entente Setif's hopes to remain in the Champions League collapsed after the CAF Disciplinary Committee rejected their appeal concerning a previous decision from the African football governing body to disqualify them from the competition.

Violence occurred at the end Setif's 2-0 home defeat by Sundowns of South Africa during their opening game in the Champions League group stage last month.

The referee abandoned the match due to a pitch invasion and after spectators and security personnel were injured by "missiles, stones, bottles, and firecrackers."

The CAF decided to disqualify the Algerian side. The team appealed but the CAF Disciplinary Committee turned down the appeal Sunday.

Consequently, the result of the match was annulled and the group has now been left with three teams: Sundowns, Enyimba of Nigeria and Egypt's Zamalek.

The top two clubs will advance to the semi-finals.
