Ghana coach Avram Grant slammed the poor condition of the Accra Stadium pitch after his already-qualified side were held to a 1-1 draw by Rwanda in the final round of the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
"The pitch is one of the worse I have seen. The pitch here in Accra is not up to standard and its one of the worse pitch I have seen in my entire career so far as a coach," Grant said after the game, according to Ghanaian media.
"Some of the clubs were angry at us because their players returned with injuries because of this same pitch, example is Atsu and Acheampong."
The Black Stars reached the Nations Cup after topping their group with 17 points, while Rwanda finished second on six points.
"During the match, I asked one of the stadium managers to put water on the pitch. He told me there was no money for fuel, which was unfortunate," Grant added.
"If we want the best from our players, we must give them the necessary tools to get the best out of them."
Ghana's Minister for Youth and Sports Nii Lante Vanderpuye said before the match there was no need for the foreign-based players to play against Rwanda due to a cash crisis.
"We think we need to cut cost. We have already qualified for the Nations Cup so the outcome of this game is not important. Why do we want to kill a fly with a sledge hammer?" Lante Vanderpuye said.
