New York's Metropolitan Opera new season to live stream in Egypt

The MET Opera live HD transmissions started streaming in Egypt in 2010


The New YorkMetropolitan Opera said it will send out 10 live streams worldwide during its new season.The opera's live streaming in Egypt will serve Cairo, Alexandria and the Red Sea's Gouna resort.

"In the upcoming season, the Met: Live in HD will feature 10 live transmissions, beginning 8 October with the 100th transmission in series history, Tristan und Isolde," read the official press release of the Metropolitan Opera.

Composed by Richard Wagner, Tristan und Isolde is Met Opera's new production.

The opera will be conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, directed by Mariusz TreliƄski, and will star Nina Stemme as Isolde and Stuart Skelton as Tristan.

The staging is a co-production with the Festival Hall Baden-Baden, Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera, and China National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Beijing.

The 2016/2017 will also see transmissions ofMozart's Don Giovanni (22 October), Saariaho's L’Amour de Loin (10 December).

In 2017 we will be able to watch Verdi's Nabucco (7 January 2017), Gounod's Roméo et Juliette (25 February), Verdi's La Traviata (11 March), Mozart's Idomeneo (25 March), Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin (22 April) and Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier (13 May).

Met Opera's internationallive HD transmissionswere launched in December 2006 and became very popular, gaining a total of almost one million viewers worldwide in its second season.Today, over 70 countries across six continents – over 2,000 screens, including 750 in the USA – have joined the network.

In October 2010, Egypt introduced the live HD transmissions of Met Opera at the Red Sea’s El-Gouna and the Cairo Opera House.

In October 2015, Bibliotheca Alexandrina joined the network of international screenings.
