The wide-spread swine flu virus (H1N1) claimed the lives of three more people across three governorates yesterday, and 19 others have reportedly contracted the virus and are under medication.

The three victims are a 56-year-old, Mohamed Soliman, from the Al-Daqahliya governorate, 23-year-old Edara Abdel-Moe’ty from Kafr Al-Sheikh, and Fatheya Abdel-Maqsoud, a 48-year-old housewife from Tanta governorate.

The official spokesman of the ministry of health Abdel-Rahman Shahin told Ahram Online that Health Minister Hatem El-Gabali will convene a meeting in the coming two days with the concerned departments of the ministry to discuss possible means of combating the virus.

The reported deaths follow an announcement by the Ministry of Health at a press conference last week that a total of 218 cases of swine flu (H1N1) were reported during the second week of December, and that 533 additional cases were reported between the months of October and December. These figures include 30 fatalities, 28 of which were members of what is considered a high risk group. During the same period in 2009, the ministry reported 10,599 cases, with 134 fatalities.
