Egypt's Court of Cassation upheld on Saturday a one-year prison sentence for 11 members of Zamalek football club fan group Ultras White Knights who were convicted last year of the 2014 attemptedmurder of Zamalek club chairman and MP Mortada Mansour.

The ruling is final and cannot be appealed.

In February 2016, a Giza court sentenced the defendants to one year in absentia.

The defendants appealed the ruling.

The case dates back to October 2014 when some members of the White Knights assaulted Mansour in front of Zamalek club’s main gate in Cairo, capturing the incident on video and posting it on different social media platforms.

The court dropped an initial sentence of five years in prison to one year after Mansour withdrew his complaint against the defendants.

In May 2015, a court of urgent matters banned the various Ultras fan clubs over “terrorism concerns.”
