A heat wave that hit Egypt over the past week – breaking the 40 C mark – is subsiding, with the temperature expected to drop gradually on Wednesday, Egypt’s Metrological Authority said in a statement.

Cairo is expected to see highs of 36 degrees Celsius and lows of 25, while the coastal city of Alexandria will witness highs of 30 and lows of 24.

Although temperatures will decrease, humidity levels are expected to increase nationwide.

Winds will be active in the south of the country, with sandy winds expected in northern Upper Egypt.

Wind is also expected to disrupt navigation on the Red Sea and the Gulf of Suez.

Waves in the Red Sea will reach 2 to 2.5 meters in height, while waves in the Mediterranean will reach 1.5 to 2 metres.
