Veteran striker Emad Meteb wants to see out his career at Ahly

Veteran striker Emad Meteb is determined to see out his career with Egyptian champions Ahly, despite of his rare appearances with the team this season.

Earlier in March, Ahly announced the renewal of contracts for veteran stars Meteb and Hossam Ghaly for one season. However, the rarity of Meteb's appearances have raised doubts about his future with the club.

"Sure, I want to retire at Ahly. It is my home and I owe this place a lot," Meteb told Sada El-Balad TV station on Monday.

Meteb made the comments after Ahly's 2-0 victory over rivals Zamalek in the final match of the Egyptian Premiere League, in which he did not play.

"I can't imagine retiring at another club after spending 22 years at Ahly," he added.

Meteb, 34, was part of Ahly's greatest era, inspiring them to win dozens of trophies, including three Champions Leagues, three Super Cups, one Confederation Cup and over 15 domestic championships.

"I don't think about announcing my retirement now, because I believe that I still have something to offer. I just need to appear in matches to assess my fitness and also to see whether to continue playing or not," he explained.

"This season is the strangest of my career, because I played just 180 minutes, and despite this limited time I was always lucky on the pitch," said the striker.

"Look to tennis star Roger Federer, 36, who returned to top form despite remaining on the sidelines for months due to injury. I will keep fighting to get my chance.

"There will be a meeting with my coach soon to decide my future with the team," he concluded.

Ahly ended the league season on 84 points, 10 ahead of second-placed Maqassa. Zamalek secured a CAF Confederation Cup –qualifying in third place with 66 points.
