Egypt’s intelligence chief, Omar Suleiman, met with the Israeli prime minister's top advisor Ovadi Arad yesterday in Cairo, a source in Cairo international airport told Ahram Online.
Arad landed in Cairo at night on a private jet and stayed for two hours. He discussed with Suleiman the upcoming talks next week between President Hosni Mubarak and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in Sharm El Sheikh, the source said.
Political sources and Israeli media have said the talks will focus on the deadlock in the peace process and the tension on the Israeli-Gaza border.
Neither side has disclosed whether Netanyahu’s visit was scheduled before or after Egyptian security uncovered an Israeli spy ring in the country.
