Egypt's Raneem El Welily won her first World Championship title after defeating compatriot and reigning champion Nour El Sherbini 3-1 (3-11, 12-10, 11-7 and 11-5) in the final in Manchester on Sunday.

El-Welily needed 43 minutes to overcome world number one El Sherbini in a closely-fought game.

The 28-year-old reached the final of the World tournament twice in 2014 and 2016 but lost to Nicol David of Malaysia and Nour El Sherbini respectively.

El Sherbini missed out on a third consecutive triumph, having won the 2015 and 2016 editions in Kuala Lumpur and Egypt's El Gouna respectively.

"I will never forget what Nour el Sherbini said about me after the final last year, I’m sorry you were at the losing end today, but I’m sure you’ll be at the other end so so many times, she did an incredible job you know," El Welily said after the match.
