In Photos: Opening of the 25th Cairo Int'l Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre

The opening ceremony of the festival's silver edition took place on Monday 10 September at the main hall of the Cairo Opera House


The Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theatre kicked off its 25th edition on Monday 10 September at the main hall of the Cairo Opera House and will continue until 21 September.

The opening ceremony was attended by the festival's president Sameh Mahran, The Minister of Culture Ines Abdel Dayem among other officials, and guests.

The festival, which ends 21 September, honors two Egyptian theatre icons, famous actor Ezzat El-Alaily and puppeteer Nagy Shaker, who died last month at the age of 86, in addition to a few other international theatre icons including American playwright David Henry Hwang and German Theatre scholar Hans-Thies Lehmann.

The Festival has chosen 25 shows out of 160 submissions from 35 countries, including China, Canda, Switzerland, France, Poland, Russia, Mexico, Italy, Georgia, Morocco, Brazil, Tunisia, UAE, Syria, Palestine, and Kuwait. The performances will be staged on numerous theatres across Cairo.
