The Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival’s 34th edition opens tonight at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.

This edition bears the name of actress Nadia Lotfy, and honours several figures from Greece, Syria, and Egypt alongside its international line-up and screenings at Sheraton Montazah screening hall.

The festival includes 85 films from 25 countries, including Greece, France, Albania, Slovenia, Croatia, Morocco, Palestine, and Switzerland.

The Syrian film ‘Damascus…Aleppo’ was chosen as the opening film for the 34th Alexandria Mediterranean Film Festival, where it will have its world premiere.

Those who will be honoured are Syrian actor Abbas Al-Nouri, Palestinian director Rashid Mashharawi, Moroccan artist Rawia and Palestinian producer Hussein Al-Qala.

The festival also honours two Greek filmmakers with Alexandrian-Egyptian backgrounds; Nicos Bracks, director, producer and writer, and George Bablious, former director of the Cinema Centre.

International honourees include Frank Nero from Italy, Ana Moglalis from France, and Sebastian Haro from Spain.

Egyptians who will be honoured are actor Farouk El-Fishawy, director Ahmed Yehia, DOP Maher Rady, musician Omar Khairat, and critic Magda Morris.

The annual festival is organised by the Egyptian Association for Film Writers and Critics, under the auspices of the ministries of culture, information and tourism.
