German-Egyptian ensemble Cairo Steps is giving their first performance in the Gulf on Thursday night at Al-Shaheed Park in Kuwait city during the third year of the Peace Festival.
The band received the German Jazz Award at an event in Berlin with German band Quadro Nuevo for their joint album Flying Carpet last April, which saw a contribution from the flautist Enas Abdel-Dayem, who is currently Egypt's minister of culture.
Founded in 2002 by Egyptian oud player Basem Darwish and German pianist Matthias Frey, Cairo Steps is an international Sufi-jazz-world music ensemble directed by pianist and conductor Sebastian Müller-Schrobsdorff.
The Loyac Academy of Performing Arts (LAPA) organises the annual Peace Festival, which holds concerts "aiming to reinforce love and peace through musical heritage."
"The Festival of Arts & Dance, a mixture of all forms of art with a focus on dance, is LAPA's initiative to bring together culture, youth and art education with a hint (a lot) of fun," the festival page says.
Also in this year's edition, Sudanese Alsarah and Nubatones opened the performances on Tuesday while Syrian singer Faia Younan is performing on Saturday 27.
